In internet slang, Thailand is sometimes (mostly in political contexts) referred to as 'กะลาแลนด์' (Gàlaalaen/Kalaland=> Coconut shell land) which itself is an allusion to the idiomatic expression 'กบในกะลา' (gòp nai gàlaa/kop nai kala => frog in a coconut shell) which stands for a narrow-minded person with a limited view. (Just like the frog whose whole world is what he can see inside the coconut shell.). The meaning of the concept of Thailand (its leaders in particular) living under a coconut shell is that, due to being a dictatorship, Thailand isolates itself from the world and loses itself in a spiral of ultranationalism, ultraroyalism, authoritarianism etc. and ignores its actual ideals like democracy and integration into the globalised world.
